Ever since the Covid lockdown, there has been a huge trend in society’s routines: the use of AI in countless situations. There are many cases to argue that AI “can be a good start” or a “good assistant” to things like homework, but it is a slippery slope.

I’m not saying AI is a bad thing at all, but the overuse that has been prevalent in previous years, and continues to be now, can pose a huge problem in the future. What kinds of information could students pursuing an education miss out on if they take AI as a shortcut? Would you want to go into surgery in the future from a doctor who ChatGPT’d their way through med school?

The acceptance of AI programs for educational purposes in younger education settings, such as middle or high school, can be quite dangerous, in my opinion. Once those younger students see how easy it is to use AI for homework (and only get a surface-level knowledge of what it means), they might rely on it as their sole source of knowledge.

My main hope is that, despite the constant use of AI, humans would still rely on their own intuition rather than completely rely on artificial programs. People argue that AI can take our jobs, so we should not let AI invade the jobs that humans can still hold.

Obviously, AI is here to stay – that is a cliché and overused phrase, but it still stays true. It might be slightly helpful (sometimes a little too convenient as well) when it comes to homework, but that slight help can turn into serious repercussions down the road to a human’s vast knowledge capabilities. We need to keep thinking for ourselves instead of relying on AI programs to do our work for us.
