AI is becoming a resource people rely on daily. Arguments of its ethical nature are high, but are they valid?
Yes. Using AI to get through schoolwork is unethical. That does not mean that using it in general is unethical. There are ways AI can benefit us; however, it requires adaptation.
AI can obviously be used to draft outlines of essays and build resumes and cover letters, but that is not the adaptation I am talking about. It is a great tool for expediting often lengthy, tolling tasks, but it should not be used to cut corners on reputable work.
Instead, here are ways AI has helped me.
As internship periods close and the job search continues, I have found a way to use ChatGPT to assist with interview prep. By turning on the ChatGPT talking feature, you can submit any material an employer might know or need and have a mock interview with ChatGPT.
This was a resource I found very helpful during the preparation period for an internship that I ended up getting. It allowed me to be exposed to questions on the fly and get feedback from ChatGPT. It would provide feedback on where I could articulate my thoughts and on areas where I did well. Not only did this help build confidence in my interview skills, but it also made me more comfortable interviewing on my laptop, which is now more common than ever.
Outside of my professional life, things like meal prepping and tracking nutrition have become much easier with the help of AI tools. While I do not allow AI to determine the nutrition of my meals, as some do, I have found that integrating my fitness and nutrition goals into platforms like ChatGPT has made grocery shopping and meal ideas much easier.
Rather than sitting down and planning a week’s worth of meals, I can tell ChatGPT what I want to eat, what my macros for the week look like and it will generate meal ideas and a grocery list. This has proven to be a time-saver for a busy college student.
While AI raises a plethora of ethical concerns, it is not going away anytime soon. It quite literally is the future. Get creative and be smart when utilizing AI.
