The Piedmont University softball team enters the 2026 season with optimism, depth and a clear sense of purpose. Blending experienced returners with an influx of new talent, the Lady Lions are prepared to take the next step after a strong but motivating 2025 campaign.
Piedmont welcomes 10 freshmen this season, adding youth and energy to a roster guided by head coach Terry Martin and assistant coach Drew Greer. Despite the team’s youth, the coaching staff is confident in its readiness to compete at a high level.
“Even though we are a younger team this year, Coach Martin and I are confident in this group,” Greer said. “We have players who are ready to step into big roles in leadership, in the lineup, in the circle and defensively. Our younger players are bought in, with the help of our returners leading by example.”
The Lady Lions finished the 2025 season with a 25–19 overall record and a 10–6 conference record, good for fourth place in the CCS. While the record reflected growth, the team believes it is capable of more.
“I think overall we had a good season, but obviously we could’ve been better in some games and situations,” said sophomore infielder Addy Perkins. “There were games we should’ve won and games we maybe should not have, but going through that last year will only make us better for this season.”
That experience has become the foundation for 2026. After stacking wins and knocking off ranked opponents last year, Piedmont now looks to improve its consistency and compete deeper into the conference standings.
“The 2025 season was our foundation builder,” Greer said. “We showed we can compete and win against the best. This 2026 team has its own story to write. We are focused on being more consistent in all phases of the game, and if our preparation and execution are where they need to be, we expect that mindset to translate into more wins.”
Team chemistry and focus have been emphasized throughout preseason workouts. Players and coaches alike stress the importance of staying present and connected as the season approaches.
“A successful season to us means playing our brand of softball, taking it game by game and being tough, disciplined and connected,” Greer said. “If we continue to grow, trust each other, and handle adversity the right way, we believe the results will take care of themselves.”
The Piedmont softball team will kick off its 2026 season by traveling to Atlanta to compete at Emory University.
