The Piedmont men’s and women’s golf team is underway in the 2026 season. For the men’s team, four new freshmen have been added to the roster; the women’s team is coming in with five. With the returning players and new freshmen, the women’s and men’s golf team is ready to roll into the new season.
“My personal goal this spring is to manage my expectations to become realistic within this current season of my skill,” said freshman Lila Polakowski. “This will help me to perform the best mentally and physically to help the team. Carrying the discipline I structured for myself during the off-season into tournament season will aid in my performance throughout the season”.
The women’s team in the spring will have five events, including the USA South Championship. The Lady Lions will be traveling to many different states for the events, such as Virginia, North Carolina and some in Georgia. Over spring break, the Lions will be traveling to Savannah, Georgia, to compete in the Savannah Invitational. Following the event, they will move to compete in the Jekyll Island Women’s Collegiate from March 20-22.
The women’s team also hired a new Blake Watson as their new head coach. He previously served as an assistant coach at East Tennessee State University for both the men’s and women’s golf teams, where he helped lead the teams to NCAA tournament bids.
The men’s golf team is set to have six events overall in the spring. Their travel will include states such as Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina. The Lions will start the season in Savannah, Georgia, then head to North Carolina. The Lions also plan to compete in the Jekyll Island tournament in mid-March.
“The team’s leadership right now is the best I have seen it, which is a great sign with the season starting up,” said junior Nick Anderson.
For the Lions, the team has great potential to do well in the spring season. With the returning senior Adam Rogers and two juniors, Doug Gugel and Jacob DeJesus, there will be great competition to win. Another addition to the team is sophomore Elliot Mehier, who had an outstanding fall season and hopes to continue his success in the spring season. Freshman Braden Kiley has received two CCS Rookie of the Week awards for the Lions early on.
Both golf teams show potential to make it far in the CCS Championship. With strong returning players and an upcoming star freshman, the Lions are poised for an exciting spring season.
