The Chevron gas station located in Demorest recently received tape over its alcohol section after a sting operation on Jan. 14.
The operation was conducted by the Demorest police department, resulting in a temporary suspension of alcohol sales. Demorest police discovered a violation of Chevron’s alcohol license.
This was followed by a court hearing a week later on Jan. 21. After a report by the Northeast Georgian, many people living in Demorest were unhappy that the gas station’s alcohol license was not revoked. Below are some of the comments found on the Facebook post concerning the issue:
“Why wouldn’t they revoke the license if they weren’t compliant?”
“Or just serve people who look over 21? What a crazy idea.”
“Wonder if they need a clerk that knows how to check I.D.?”
Despite the many voiced frustrations, alcohol sales are back to normal at the gas station following the hearing. All blockages of areas with alcohol have since been removed.
This operation is a reminder to both Demorest residents and Piedmont students that Piedmont is a dry campus, and it is illegal to attempt to purchase alcohol under the age of 21.
If you have a wet suite permit in the Village, this serves as a reminder not to host anyone under 21 while drinking, as that is not allowed under the license requirements.
