Men’s Soccer
On the pitch, Piedmont’s men’s soccer team has had a roller coaster for a season. Despite having a 5-8-1 record, only one win was in conference play (1-3-1 in CCS matches). With one regular-season game remaining, they still have a chance to host a playoff game, but there is also a chance of elimination.
A critical 3-1 loss against Huntingdon puts pressure on the final match against Belhaven. However, a big win against Asbury a few weekends ago is what allows the Lions to hold a playoff spot for the time being.
A win against 2-1-2 Belhaven on Saturday, Oct. 25, would punch their ticket into the CCS tournament. With some help, they could bring home a playoff game to the WAC.
Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer season has been filled with road trips and records. The team started on a long road skid, winning their first four games and scoring 21 total goals, at the time the most in NCAA Division III.
Later, during another road trip, the Lions also became the first team in NCAA history to win two games on the same day. These accomplishments have led to a 13-4 record (5-2 in CCS) so far, as they finish out the conference schedule with a home game against Asbury on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Sitting third in the conference, Piedmont has all but secured either a home quarterfinal game or a bye into the semifinals.
Men’s Cross Country
The men’s cross country team traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina, the University of North Georgia, Georgia Tech and Roanoke College so far this fall.
The team finished 15th out of 15 teams, 9th out of 12, and 11th out of 11. The team did not qualify in each of those meets, respectively.
After finishing in the top two in the CCS championship two of the last three seasons, Piedmont will have to overcome its current conference standings, sitting in sixth place ahead of the championships on Oct. 31.
Women’s Cross Country
After losing the individual CCS champion, Skyler Seeber, the women’s cross country team has been working to record the first college marks for their abundance of freshmen.
Of the five rostered runners, senior Bella Caccamo leads the way as the only upperclassman. After a third-place team finish last year, the Lions will need to rely on this younger talent to try to chase a championship on Oct. 31.
Volleyball
The Lions have posted the same number of wins as last season, 6-20 (3-8 in CCS), under new head coach Kat Tatum. The team has five conference and one out-of-conference game remaining.
At seventh place in the CCS, they will need to pull out a few more wins in the regular season to start a playoff push.
