Piedmont has had an extensive history of student success and achievement, though for decades that history did not include black people or people of color. However, several of Piedmont’s graduates have found extensive postgraduate success.

Dr. Octavius Mulligan is the dean of the College of Education at Piedmont University. He has an extensive history of education with a doctorate, and is a specialist in curriculum and instruction. “My time at Piedmont has prepared me to be a proactive educator who continuously seeks knowledge.” The former principal stated in an email.

(Imani Spence)
Imani Spence has a fine arts major with a painting minor. The 2024 graduate admitted: ”While post-grad has been a rollercoaster of emotions, within the first few months, I managed to pick up my first job in the game industry and did my first art residency in North Carolina.”
When asked about the effects of her teachers on her career she stated: “The education and supportive environment at Piedmont have helped me to build the confidence and artistic voice needed to stand out from the crowd.”

(Anthony Jordan)
2022 graduate Anthony Jordan has a criminal justice degree and has held a prior career in corrections. “Piedmont allowed me to bond with friends and colleagues that make up the connections needed to have a successful career after graduation,” said Jordan. The former D3 All-American currently has an interest in working with the District Attorney.

Jarrett Ray is a double major of communication and film and documentary production from the class of ‘24. “Deep down there are definitely regrets of not looking into HBCUs,” the graduate said. ”But overall Piedmont was the perfect school for me. If I hadn’t chose Piedmont, I don’t think I would have gained the mass media and networking skills that allowed me to earn a multitude of opportunities from some of the biggest names in media, coming straight out of college.” Ray works in promotions and is a freelance editor.

(Nakiyah Washington)
Nakiyah Washington, class of ‘22, has a masters in Elementary Education with a gifted endorsement. “Thanks to Piedmont, I found myself and developed a confidence I didn’t have before. I had the courage to start my life and career in a place other than my hometown,” Washington said. “Meeting new people was never my strong suit, but it’s something I enjoy doing now. I’ve truly met some of my best friends, who I couldn’t imagine my life without.”
