For sophomore Marissa Weaver, joining Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority Inc. at Piedmont University was about more than becoming part of a campus organization; it was about finding a place that felt like home.
“What originally drew me to Zeta was the sisterhood,” Weaver said. “Philanthropy is also very important to me, especially breast cancer education and awareness, so I knew it was the right fit.”
That sense of belonging only grew stronger during recruitment. Weaver said the welcoming environment made a lasting impression.
“During rush, how comfortable I felt and how nice everyone was really made the process a lot easier,” she said. “It made me feel at home.”
At Piedmont, Zeta Tau Alpha’s presence is defined by more than its values. It is shaped by the relationships between its members. For Weaver, one recent moment captured what sisterhood truly means.
“A couple of weeks ago, we did a sisterhood activity after chapter where everyone had a paper with their name on it, and every single sister went around and wrote something they love about them,” she said. “That really showed me how much everyone truly sees each other as a sister, not just someone in a sorority or a friend.”
Beyond connection, Zeta Tau Alpha has also played a major role in Weaver’s personal growth. While she describes herself as naturally social, her experience in the organization has pushed her further.
“I think being in Zeta has really shaped me to be a more social person,” she said. “Opening up and talking to people during recruitment really helps you, especially with networking.”
Through events and connections with alumni, Weaver has found opportunities that extend beyond campus life.
“We go to events with the Gainesville alumni chapter, and it really helps with networking for the future,” she said. “You meet other Zeta alumni who can have an impact on your future as well.”
As the spring semester continues, the chapter is preparing for one of its most meaningful events: Pink Week. Centered around breast cancer education and awareness, the week serves as both a fundraiser and a way to bring the campus community together for an important cause.
“This spring, we have Pink Week coming up and a lot of exciting things planned,” Weaver said. “It’s our big breast cancer education and awareness fundraiser.”
For Weaver and her sisters, Zeta Tau Alpha is more than an organization. It is a lifelong commitment to service, growth and uplifting one another.
At Piedmont, that commitment is shaping its members and leaving a lasting impact on the community.
