Women’s Soccer

After defeating Covenant College 1-0 in double overtime on Oct. 12, the Lady Lions looked to repeat that magic in the USA South Championship game on Nov. 6 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Unfortunately, it was Covenant who eked out a 1-0 victory to claim the conference crown.

“Even though we lost in the finals, that one loss can’t take away from the good things we did as a team this season,” said senior forward Julia Gib.

The Lions would try to strike first as junior Kaylee King would fired a shot in the 19th minute, turned away by Covenant keeper Lucy Sandhoff. For Piedmont, freshman goalkeeper Laila Allen matched Sandhoff, keeping Covenant scoreless at halftime.

In the second half, senior Amanda Weinhart would come out fired up with a pair of shots trying to get the Lady Lions on the board. As the game would continue there would still be no points until the 86th minute of the game as Covenant would score the season ending dagger for the Lions.

The Lady Lions end the season 13-5-4 and 7-1 in conference play, finishing second in the USA South.

Men’s Golf

The Piedmont men’s golf team concluded their fall 2021 season on Oct. 26th.

“Overall, the fall was definitely successful,” said head coach JP Kircher. “We had beaten teams who were the current 5th, 7th, 8th, 15th, and 18th ranked teams in the country. Included in that was a team victory against Illinois Wesleyan, who has won back-to-back national championships.”

Not only did the team play well together all season, but there was also a few Lions who played well for themselves individually.

Sophomore, Josh Hebrink, native of Elk River, Minnesota, received All-USA South Second team for 2021. Hebrink found himself at the top of the leaderboards this season for the Lions which helped lead the team through their events.

Junior Fred Roberts IV, native of Richmond Hill, Georgia, was also a major key player for the Lions this season. Roberts has received All-USA South Second team, PING/GCAA All South Region and PING/GCAA All-America Honorable Mention for 2021.
