The Lady Lions defended their undefeated record on Tuesday, March 12 against Transylvania University at the Walker Athletic Complex.

The Lady Lions posted a 19-9 win over the Pioneers to lead them into their weekend series in North Carolina.

The game started fiercly as the Pioneers forged their way to the first goal in the first minute of the game.

The Lady Lions pounced back, recording five consecutive goals.

In the sixteenth minute, Carly Haraka had a great save to hold the score at 5-1 for Piedmont.

The Lady Lions slipped and gave three goals to Transylvania.

However, the Lady Lions battled back and roared past the Pioneers to make it 9-4 before halftime.

In the first half, the Pioneers seemed to rely heavily on their only scorer, Aubrey Bausum, while four of Piedmont’s Lady Lions contributed to the nine goals scored.

The Lions set the stage for the second half by ripping two goals past the goal keeper in the first two minutes of the half.

Transylvania followed with another goal to make it 10-5, with the Lions still leading the way.

The Lady Lions then pounced on the Pioneers with five unanswered goals to make the game seem unattainable for Transylvania at 15-5.

The Pioneers battled for the rest of the half and looked for a way to blaze back into the game.

However, the Lady Lions defended their pride to hold on to their lead.

After the long battle of the second half, the Pioneers fell short to the Lady Lions 19-9.

“This game was able to show us some major improvements we need to make,”  said Haraka, a goalkeeper for the Lions.

“Our defense was sloppy today and we all know that we need to sharpen up to hold this undefeated record. Overall it’s a good win, and our team learned a lot from it today.”

The Lady Lions were able to share the nineteen goals between seven of their players, showing the depth of their team, while Transylvania only had three players score.
