It was a rainy Saturday, but that did not stop the Habersham Chamber of Commerce from continuing their annual Hills of Habersham bike ride on Oct. 11. The event was held at the Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center and was organized by president of the Chamber of Commerce Judy Taylor who said they had a total of 75 participants sign up for the bike ride with the Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, and 3 children sign up for the children’s courses. The riders set off at 8 a.m. from the aquatic center’s parking lot and had three course options to choose from: 23 mile, 42 mile and 62 mile. There were numerous Support and Gear (SAG) stops along the courses for the riders that provided water, snacks and encouragement from volunteers. The children’s bike ride was held behind the aquatic center with the course around the baseball and track fields. Amongst the top three riders to finish first was bicycling coach of Habersham Central High School Kim Cantrell who came in first place. To come in second was Chad Hayes of the Hayes Chevrolet Company in Baldwin, Ga. Crossing the finish line in third place was Cagle. Volunteers for the event included Tallulah Falls School’s TriM Music Honor Society and their music director Kurt Frederick.
