Enjoy the Little Things

Through the every day hustle of classes, work, clubs and keeping up with your social scene, it’s easy to get lost in life. Often times, we get so wrapped up in all the other things we do that enjoying life gets thrown by the wayside. As the ever-wise and completely fictional Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Although Bueller isn’t real, his message is.  I understand that as college students, we have a lot going on in our day-to-day. I know we all have big dreams, goals and ambitions for our lives. However, we are all human, and if we aren’t careful these big beautiful dreams can turn into looming challenges that feel overwhelming and intimidating. It’s important to remember to enjoy the journey of reaching your goals and they won’t seem like a burden, but a blessing. Rule #32, from the popular movie Zombieland says, “enjoy the little things” and it certainly applies here. In your efforts to graduate, pass a class, land the role in a play or break a sports record, remember to enjoy life and all the incredible things it has to offer.  Now, I’m not suggesting reckless living as if there is no tomorrow. The future is important to plan for, just don’t let it take up all your time in the present. Now it’s time to make a change. Don’t just shrug each day off as a crappy one because a few things didn’t go right. Try to recognize moments in your day that made it a good one. Take time to do something fun, something exciting, something bad for you. Don’t take life too seriously. No one makes it out alive anyway.
