The iconic creepy duo featuring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter co-stars in several films directed by Tim Burton. Some of these films includone of my favorites, “Corpse Bride:” (2005). For those who do not know, Tim Burton’s universally recognizable style is derived from German Expressionism, which was a modern art movement in the 1920’s. Feelings of tension or dread were often experienced by critics during this time. I think this movie brings Tim Burton’s dark, expressive style to a new level. The contrast between the gray, grim lives of the living and the colorful, joyful lives of the dead makes the concept of death and what happens after we die seem like something to be celebrated. Because the two main characters, Victor and Emily, were married on accident, hints of comedy are added to the story line as they try to figure out a way for marriage to work between the dead and the living. If you find yourself needing a break from the usual gory and horrific Halloween movies, then this one may be worth a watch as a great alternative.
