Pride Walk Preview
October 18, 2020
After the success of the first ever Piedmont Pride Walk last year the Campus Activities Board has announced dates for the second. The second annual Pride Walk will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m., weather permitting. The walk will begin at the Student Commons and end at the Quad where there will be activities and informative tables. The purpose of the Pride Walk is to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.
There will be some changes for this year’s Pride Walk due to COVID like temperature checks, required face masks, and no guests.
“While we will miss the community engagement this year, our COVID policies are set to ensure campus safety,” said Zachary Moore, Coordinator of Student Activities at Piedmont. There will also be pre-packaged snacks at the event to allow for social distancing when eating.
There will be more Faculty and Staff involved this year, and CAB hopes to see more students there as this annual event continues to grow. On the Quad, there will be information tables to inform anyone and everyone who is interested in learning more about the LGBTQ+ Community. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council will also be represented and will be hosting a table so be sure to stop by.
“While I can’t speak for students, our hope is that the walk shows the support that LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff have at Piedmont College,” said Moore. “We are continuously working to improve our campus climate and to be more inclusive and equitable. I am proud of the work that the Campus Activities Board executive team has put in to host events like the Pride Walk. The Pride Walk is a sign that no matter your identity you have a home here at Piedmont.”
