Habitat for Humanity’s vision is to see a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Since their beginning in 1976, they have built over 600,000 homes world-wide. Habitat has also created numerous programs to benefit people of all walks of life. From programs that support veterans, to opportunities for children in school, Habitat does not leave anyone out of their mission. Now with locations in all 50 states and nearly 70 countries, Habitat for Humanity is fulfilling their vision one home at a time.
Here at Piedmont, our local chapter is the Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia, which is in Clarkesville, GA. Beginning in 1986, the Northeast Georgia chapter of Habitat is currently constructing their 71st home. During a phone interview with the mother of a partner family who chooses to remain unnamed, she said that, “Habitat was an opportunity to get a home because the circumstances were never good for us, we would pay rent and housing that we couldn’t afford so we had to stay in areas that were unsafe.” Most families that reach out to Habitat are unable to afford a place to live that is in a safe area or that has amenities that families need.
“Habitat has given us our first true home, and with that comes peace, comfort, and security for our family,” the mother said. “Now we can start enjoying our lives and not feeling like we’re on edge trying to get to this point.” The Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia has built up the local community and given back to its members that are in need. Not only have they built homes, they have built security and given families the peace of mind to know that they have a stable living environment to flourish in for years to come. If you or anyone you know is interested in volunteering their time at the current build site, email [email protected] to find out more information.
