As the regular season is coming to an end, the Piedmont College women’s basketball team will be on the road for the next few days to close it out. The Lady Lions will be back home on Feb. 1 against Covenant, before facing off against Huntingdon College for Senior Recognition day on Feb. 2. After that, Piedmont will shortly begin preparing for the USA South Tournament.
“Our team is very prepared to do good in the (USA South) tournament,” said Jalen Davis, a senior point guard. “We are ranked first in the West Division, and we have a lot of energy coming off last season. I’m pretty sure we’ll get another ring.”
The Lady Lions have definitely created a reputation for themselves. After winning the USA South Tournament Championship the last two years, the Piedmont women’s basketball team has become a force to be reckoned with. This year is no different. The team has ridden their well-earned confidence this whole season in preparation to winning another championship, as Jalen Davis believes.
“We have done excellent so far,” said Davis. “We are 16-3 so far but we are 10-0 in conference play, we haven’t lost a single conference game yet, explained Davis. We are ready to play good in the championship, and I think we will handle it well. We practice every day, and we go hard against each other always. Our practices are tough because we train really hard. When we scrimmage each other, we want to make it realistic and competitive. There’s times when we might get frustrated with each other, but we know the end goal is to win a championship.”
After coming off a 70-40 victory over Agnes Scott College last Wednesday, the Lady Lions hope to carry over that energy on the road. The first round of the USA South Tournament will be commencing on Feb. 13 against an opponent to be determined.
