Every October, people all over the world participate in the internet phenomenon called “Inktober.” It was created back in 2009 by an artist who wanted to challenge himself by drawing something every day in October. For the past few years, there have been daily prompts that people like to follow as they post their drawings online.
“I like seeing the variety of styles and methods artists come up with, even when we all start with the same prompt.” said junior art therapy major Samantha Cattogio.
This past year was Cattogio’s first year completing all of Inktober.
“It was a good exercise in perseverance and time, honestly,” Cattogio said. I missed a couple days and had to play catch up, but I’m glad I did it.”
Senior Lei Ward is an interdisciplinary studies major who has an emphasis in art and theatre. This past Inktober was the first one they actually completed. They created their own prompt based off of one their favorite shows.
“Inktober for me is an opportunity for artists to really flex their creative muscles,” Ward said. “People really don’t realize how hard it is for an artist to draw every single day, let alone make up a concept to draw.”
