The Piedmont College lady lions took care of business at home on Tuesday, January 23 as they dominated Brevard College 79 to 59. The lady lions were led by Carlie Shields who netted 15 points for the green and gold. Shields had some help off the bench as Jatasia Bailey scored 15 points for the lady lions.
The name of the game was defense as Piedmont was able to turn the tornados over 21 times. The lady lions also outscored the tornados 26 to 9 in the second period. The lady lions controlled the entire first half as they led the Tornados 42 to 19 at the half. Piedmont was able to get a lot of transition points off the full court press they ran throughout the game.
“We’re treating this game just like any other game even if it doesn’t count in conference,” said assistant women’s basketball coach Brad Cochran. “They have some good individuals, but we’re going to play our style and lock them up on the defensive end of the floor.”
The lady lions held the Tornados from behind the arc as they only shot 19 percent from downtown. Piedmont also scored 18 fast break points compared to the 10 that Brevard scored. The Lady Lions went off to the races, playing a very up and down and high tempo game. Brevard couldn’t keep up with the lion’s run and gun style game.
