On August 21, 2017, the faculty and students of Piedmont College, along the rest of the country, watched the first solar eclipse in the contiguous United States since 1979. For several hours, Americans united in peace to watch the moon, the sun, and the earth perfectly align for the first time in 38 years. 

Piedmont College was no exception. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) held a total eclipse viewing party on the quad, which drew quite a crowd of attendees from the college and the local community. The Piedmont Lions roared in excitement as the eclipse reached totality. For a brief moment, everyone banded together in awe of the rare and mesmerizing event. 

“It was amazing!” freshman Orion Callender said. “It brought the student body together for that moment.” 

Another freshman, Alisa Still, described it as an “unforgettable experience.” 

In those moments, we all shared the same excitement and the same piece of history.
