Piedmont College has a lot of students who are into fitness. If you have ever been to Piedmont’s gym, there’s a chance that you’ve seen Jessica Bergin and Marquise Lanier. Bergin is a senior athletic training major with a minor in nutrition. She also is a member of the women’s lacrosse team. Marquise Lanier is a junior mass communications major and plays on the men’s basketball team. The gym is a second home to both of these student-athletes. The Roar sat down with them to discuss their fitness routines.

Bergin-

Q: When did you get involved in fitness?

A: I started playing soccer when I was five-years-old and have been involved in sports my whole life. My senior year of high school, I joined the women’s weight lifting team and that’s when I got really into strength training.

Q: How many times a week do you workout?

A: Six days, sometimes five if I need a second rest day

Q: What is your favorite part of the body to workout?

A: Legs or back

Q: Do you just workout or do you also watch what you eat?

A: I try to watch what I eat here at Piedmont, especially when I’m in season, but it’s really hard to do that when my only options are what the cafeteria has available. When I’m home, I prep all my meals to stay on track.

Q: What is your favorite healthy snack?

A: Apples and peanut butter

Q: What is your cheat meal?

A: Pizza and ice cream

Q: What is the recovery method that you use?

A: I do static stretches and foam roll after a workout, and I drink a lot of water throughout the day and during my workouts.

Q: When did you get involved in fitness?

A: I got involved with lifting weights my sophomore year of high school to get started for basketball.

Q: How many times a week do you workout?

A: Five days a week, every single week, no matter what. I do not miss a workout.

Q: What is you favorite part of the body to workout?

A: It used to be chest, but now back and biceps because I like the feeling after the workout.

Q: Do you just workout or do you also watch what you eat?

A: I just workout. I’ve never really been into eating extremely healthy. I like the taste of food.

Q: What is your favorite healthy snack?

A: Apples, because they are sweet but healthy.

Q: What is your cheat meal?

A: I have a lot of those because I don’t watch what I eat, but it would probably be ice cream.

Q: What is the recovery method that you use?

A: I stretch a lot. I never do a workout that I don’t stretch really well afterwards.
