On Jan. 29, in the Piedmont College Chapel, pianist, Dr. Jeri-Mae G. Astolfi performed both traditional and non-traditional music with pieces dating from the 15th Century to the 20th Century.
Astolfi performed pieces by composer Domenico Scarlatti as well as sonatas from “Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano” by American musical pioneer, John Cage. She also preformed “Sonata No. 3 in B Minor, Op 58” by Frederic Chopin.
According to piedmont.edu, Astolfi has previously held a spot on the music faculty at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and at Henderson State University. Astolfi frequently serves as a coach, master class instructor and piano clinician. She is also an active member in different local, state, and national music associations.
“The concert overall was great. I really enjoyed the prepared piano portion of the concert. It’s a really interesting concept that John Cage had put together,” said sophomore vocal performance major Jacob McVey.
