The Piedmont University Department of Theatre is excited to put on its own rendition of the play “Godspell” on Nov. 6-9.
“Godspell” is a musical play loosely based on the parables Jesus Christ taught his disciples, as found in the Gospel of Matthew from the Bible.
“Each scene has a different lesson that you can take from it, and I think that is what makes this play so special,” said sophomore Nealy Webster, who has a solo in the play.
While the play has a religious background, the theatre department has invested a significant amount of time and effort in ensuring that the play will entertain audiences with diverse beliefs and backgrounds.
“‘Godspell’ is different because when everyone comes on stage, they don’t go back off until intermission,” says Webster. “This means the ensemble and the lead actors are all on stage together at the same time. That makes it really different and fun and unlike anything I have ever been a part of. I also like the music and I think it’s really pretty,”
The showings will be held on the Swanson Mainstage Theater, with the first three nights, Nov. 6, 7 and 8, shows starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. The final show is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
