Piedmont University’s swim team has seen its fair share of success in recent history, and they are trying to continue pushing the agenda of success going into this season.
In the early parts of the season, the Lions are optimistic about their chances of continuing to be successful against competition this year.
“[We want to] win as many meets as possible and win conference,” said junior Kelly Mashburn. Mashburn wants to break her own personal records this year in the 50-meter, 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle swims, among other events.
The swim team had a dominant performance last year at conference, factoring in both men’s and women’s performances, with both groups finishing first and second, respectively. Both sides look to kick off the season with success, given returners and freshmen experience.
Sophomore Carmen Yeager knows the importance of having an experienced Lions coach in Teddy Guyer. “If you talk to Coach Teddy, things will always be figured out,” said Yeager.
Borgmann, as well as Yaeger, say they want to see the team break records in the 200-meter medley, 200-meter freestyle and the 400-meter freestyle events this year, setting high expectations for the Lions.
Piedmont’s first two swim meets will occur at home on Oct. 4 against Columbia College and Oct. 10 against Warren Wilson College.
