Piedmont University has been experiencing ongoing parking issues since the start of the fall semester. Students have voiced frustrations over the limited parking available, which has led many to park in restricted areas such as the Red Lot—spaces reserved for faculty and staff.
Chief of campus police Jim Andrews emphasized the importance of students obtaining parking passes. “It’s important that students get parking passes to better help us officers identify who can park where,” Andrews said. “The passes help prevent confusion about designated parking zones.”
Chief Andrews acknowledged the lack of parking, saying, “I’m not afraid to admit that we don’t have enough parking here on campus. Most students can park by the Commons area and walk to class, but many choose to park in faculty spaces instead. That’s when we have to issue tickets.”
Over the past three weeks, campus police have issued numerous $100 tickets to students who park in unauthorized areas. Andrews urges students to take advantage of the available parking permit system to avoid fines.
“Please come get a parking pass so my team and I don’t have to give out these tickets,” said Chief Andrews
To obtain a parking pass, students can use the Piedmont app and scroll to the bottom to find the parking pass application. Passes are also available in person at the GB Hall building from campus police.
