The summer break is the time for college students to work, get money, and get ahead on school, whether it’s going through internships, part-time jobs, or side gigs. But what if I told you, students are doing it wrong?
What if I said summer should not be about school work or anything productive? Instead, it should be the time to rest, have fun and personal growth.
College itself is very intense and students’ stress levels go through the roof with lectures, exams, clubs, part-time jobs and athletics during the school year. Throughout the year, students do not have time for themselves and don’t have time to truly recharge.
All of that stress and anxiety build up and that will lead to burnout, depression or something even worse. That’s why summers are meant for rest. A summer season without work allows students to sleep in, go outside and just do whatever they want without work getting in the way.
Rest isn’t laziness, it is a need!
Many students are already juggling academics and employment, which is hard. If they are working during the summer, students will go insane. Taking the summer off isn’t slacking; it is just recovering.
Plus, after students graduate, summer will disappear and now it is time to become an adult and get a full-time job that doesn’t offer months off. That’s why students should have a chance to have a real summer, because you never know if it may be your last.
Right now, everyone should take this summer off and just relax and live life. Jobs will always be there, but your early twenties will not.
