Whether you are looking forward to graduation or summer vacation, there is one thing that sticks in everyone’s way… finals. Finals week begins on May 1 and goes all the way to May 6. To prepare for these exams, here are the best study spots around Piedmont University:
#1 Sewell Education Building
Coming in first on the ranking is the study rooms in the Sewell Education building. Each study room has a whiteboard and a projector, along with multiple tables and chairs for a big study party. My favorite part of these study rooms is the ones on the top floor that have a garage-like door that you can close or keep open. With its growing popularity, make sure you secure one of the rooms quickly!
#2 Student Success Center
If you are an athlete, you probably have mixed feelings about the Student Success Center. However, Lane Hall provides one of the best study environments. The dim lighting and the booths far from everyone tend to relieve feelings of stress or being overwhelmed. The reason it is not number one on my list is because, as a former athlete who was expected to complete a certain number of study hours, I would rather study somewhere on my own accord. Lane Hall also provides easy access to career services if you want wanting chat about career goals or support. Also in Lane Hall are the tutoring rooms where you can sign up to get extra help with studying.
#3 Swanson Newsroom
I think the Swanson Newsroom is heavily underrated. The Swanson Center provides a good environment, mainly in the newsroom. There are cubicles and tables that students can use to do homework. If you want a more inclusive place to study, there are study rooms for individuals who want a quiet environment.
#4 Library
I want to like studying in the library. Last year was the first time I studied in the library, and I was not a big fan. If you are not there early enough, all of the study rooms are occupied and most likely will not be vacant until late at night. Even if you manage to snag a room, not everyone follows the courtesy rules, and you’ll spend more time annoyed at all the noise than studying. However, I think there are still some good spots in the library that can benefit from studying.
#5 Commons tables
If you are constantly studying or doing homework at the tables in the Commons next to the gym, I applaud you. This spot is last on my list solely due to the amount of foot traffic all day long. There is not a long enough period where students are not filing in for lunch and dinner, teams entering the gym for workouts or friends floating around wanting to talk. I have friends who have studied here, but if you get distracted easily, I would not recommend studying here.
If you are like me and need a coffee shop environment to study, here are the top three best coffee shops off-campus:
#1 Farmhouse
This one comes as no one’s surprised, but with the convenient location and discounts for Piedmont students, Farmhouse takes the number one spot for best study location. The coffee and staff make for a welcoming environment. However, as finals near, more and more people have taken to studying at Farmhouse, making seating limited. Make sure you get there early to secure a seat!
#2 Jumping Goat Coffee
If you are willing to make a drive, Jumping Goat Coffee provides the best scenery and atmosphere for a study session. Jumping Goat is located roughly 25 minutes away from campus in Helen. They also have live performances on the weekend that they constantly update on their website. With the weather warming up, the outdoor seating will elevate your study sessions.
#3 Starbucks
Much like Farmhouse, if you are looking for a convenient study spot, Starbucks is the next best thing. They have plenty of seating and calming music playing all day long to provide a calm environment. If the hustle and bustle of people entering and leaving does not bother you, Starbucks is a great place to study.
