Early Sunday morning while doing his rounds around campus, Chief Andrews received the surprise of a lifetime: a ticket.
“I was coming from Mystic going to the Swanson Center and didn’t stop as long as I should at the stop sign,” Andrews said.”I was very surprised to see blue flashing lights in my rearview mirror.” Andrews’ was stopped in a Piedmont vehicle and called the situation ‘bizarre.’
The officer ran the vehicle’s tags and asked for Andrews’ license as normal. Throughout the situation, the police chief assumed it was some big joke.
“I’ve never received a ticket while on duty,” He stated. “And I knew the officer who pulled me over. I thought he was just messing with me, but then he came out with a citation. That’s when I got confused.”
The stop sign at the tennis courts is infamous at Piedmont. Many students that receive tickets on campus are given them there, now including Piedmont’s own Chief Andrews. Andrews’ is beloved by students and known to promote safety on campus, so to receive this citation was a shock to him.
“The students don’t know yet, but I know when word makes its way around campus, there’ll be a few Yik Yak posts about me,” said Andrews with a chuckle. This ticket is Andrews’ first ticket in several years, and is reportedly $150. He encourages students to drive safely so as not to run into situations like these.
