Though there are four seasons in a calendar year, summer stands completely distinct from the other three. Fall has crisp orange leaves and winter has snowy wonderlands, and spring is distinguished by recurring rainstorms. However, there is something different about summer.
As a child, summer meant freedom, and playing outside until the street lights turned on. It meant sitting on the porch with a popsicle and watching the lightning bugs glow under the golden sunset. There’s something innocent in the childhood nostalgia that summer holds. The entire world stops for a little bit, allowing us to enjoy a bit of peace.
As we age, summer can mean new beginnings for people. For some, it is the last summer league or AAU games before college. For others, it means road trips with annoying siblings and parents who love to take pictures of everything. For some, summer is the last time to hang out with friends before everyone goes their separate ways to chase their dreams.
Regardless of what summer means to you, the blue skies and clear sun can always be a beautiful reminder of the optimism of life.
