Who does not love a 70-degree day with a nice breeze?
Spring is the only time of year when you can go outside and be perfectly comfortable. Part of the appeal is going from being bundled up in winter to feeling 20 pounds lighter in a shirt and shorts.
As the weather gets warmer, so do the views. Nature paints a perfect picture with the trees and the grass, making everything outside look green again. The sun sets later and spreads its light right over the Georgia mountains.
The end of the school year is in sight, and it is clear that the last month or two of school is better than the summer and being out of school.
April and May are when the thinking-gears stop turning. Students and teachers hit an early vacation mode. What makes this better than summer is the fact that everyone still gets to see each other. School and classes become a time for everyone to just hang out. Then the weekend comes around and everyone wants to spend time outside with each other.
Springtime also brings the best time of year for sports. March Madness kicks off the spring in mid-March and moves through April. The NBA is in the heart of their season wrap-up including the playoffs through May and June. The NHL has the end of their regular season and into the playoffs. The MLB and other baseball leagues start their spring training and the beginning of the regular season. This is the perfect time for sports to be at their peak because the weather is finally getting warm after a harsh winter.
Spring is commonly overlooked because of its lack of popular holidays. Summer has the Fourth of July, fall has Halloween and Thanksgiving and winter has Christmas.
Yet, people seem to ignore Easter. It is a forgotten holiday because spring is so busy with fun events. All of a sudden, Easter weekend arrives and people are preparing for family get-togethers, easter egg hunts and festivities.
Easter can be compared to Thanksgiving, but with nicer weather. Thanksgiving is great, with the food and the football, but the weather leaves those who celebrate stuck in the house. Why do that when an easter egg hunt and a crab feast can be enjoyed in the sun?
The only downside to spring is tax season. No one likes doing their taxes. However, spring is an overlooked time of year outside of that. The weather does not get any better, sports are in full swing and Easter is right around the corner. Arguing otherwise couldn’t change my mind.
