As Piedmont’s lone Greek life affiliation, Zeta Tau Alpha enters its eighth year on campus, it begins to get its footing among students.
Prospective students are often looking for Greek life to be a part of. However, Zeta’s presence on campus has been null in recent years.
“I didn’t even know it existed until a week before I came here,” said freshman executive council member Marissa Weaver. “Then I saw their Instagram and was like, I want to do that.”
Although Zeta has not grown a ton of traction in recent years, this year’s recruitment class was the largest of the chapter’s existence. They have 18 members, including an executive board, to plan events and host chapter meetings.
Greek life allows students to branch out on campus and become more involved. Students see this as more than just an opportunity for friendship; it is also a networking opportunity.
“I know I wanted to go into sisterhood, not just to make friends but make lifelong connections,” said Weaver.
Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity has philanthropy involvement with breast cancer education awareness, tagged as “Think Pink.” Throughout the year, Zeta plans events around breast cancer education and awareness and hosts fundraisers for their philanthropy.
In the upcoming months, Weaver plans on exercising her role as Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Service to host campus-wide events for their Philanthropy. This includes collaborations with CAB for rodeo and bonfire night and “Pink Week” in support of their philanthropy.
“Pink Week” will include week-long Zeta-sponsored events, with a Pie-an-Athlete fundraiser event after the week. Zeta plans to open the event up to all of student life.
“That’s our big goal this semester, to get the students more involved,” said Weaver.
