Men’s Swim
Both teams delivered standout performances at the Small College Championships in November 2024, posting faster times and positioning themselves well for the conference season.
Despite the setback of two canceled meets after winter break, the teams took advantage of the extra time to train harder—putting in double sessions and gaining an edge over their competition. Their efforts paid off with a dominant win over Warren Wilson.
While some athletes had to step away due to injuries, both teams continued to push forward with resilience.
“We’re doing what our coach tells us to do. We’re focusing on our diets, what we need to improve on, and working on what we need to do to win another conference,” said senior Leandro Forero.
The men’s swimming team dominated Warren Wilson with a record of 6-0. During this event, 12 different athletes picked up a solo or relay victory.
At their next meet, the men’s swimming team ended with a split in double dual action, coming on top of Warren Wilson 171-17 but falling to Mars Hill 158.50-46.50.
Piedmont’s loss to Mars Hill was its first dual defeat of the 2024-25 season, but the team still holds an impressive 7-1 record heading into the Independent South Conference Meet, set for Feb. 13-15 in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Women’s Swim
On Jan. 25, the women’s swim team went against Mars Hill and Warren Wilson.
The Piedmont women’s swim team cruised past Warren Wilson in their first home meet of the spring season. The Lions dominated the meet, claiming victories in all 14 events, including wins in both the opening and closing relays.
The Lions fought intensely against Mars Hill but fell 116-75. Junior backstroker Caroline Massaro secured a victory with a time of 1:05.74, edging out Mars Hills’ Cassidy Hull by two seconds.
The women’s swim team is navigating a season of transition after losing several seniors last year. With the addition of a transfer and a freshman, the team is working to rebuild and regain momentum.
“We’re pushing ourselves to break the one-minute mark as we prepare for our conference meet in two weeks,” said sophomore swimmer Ollie Smith.
As they prepare for key events, they focus on refining the details–speed, technique, and execution. Their ultimate goal is to perform well at the Independent South Conference Meet to make up lost ground and earn crucial points.
