The Georgia Bulldogs ended their season on Jan. 2, 2025, in the Sugar Bowl to Notre Dame in a 23-10 loss, resulting in the Dawgs being eliminated in the second round of the College Football Playoffs.
While their loss devastated fans, the Dawgs had a fairly successful season after winning their 15th SEC Championship on Dec. 7. Georgia was ranked the number two team, clinching them a first-round bye for a spot in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
Quarterback Carson Beck led the SEC with twenty-eight touchdowns. However, he ranked fourth overall in interceptions in college football (12).
Beck injured his right elbow in the conference championship game, leaving backup Gunner Stockton to lead the team to victory. With the game in overtime, Stockton is forced to sit out for one play because of injury, leading Beck to finish the job and handing the ball off to running back Trevor Etienne for the game-winning touchdown. Beck underwent surgery for a torn UCL on Dec. 23. Beck entered the transfer portal and has committed to the University of Miami for the 2025 season.
Georgia’s record was 11-3, 6-2 in the SEC. While they snapped their undefeated streak in the regular season, twenty-nine games, they defended their dirt, walking away with 6-0 at home.
The Dawgs two losses came from being on the road. Their first loss of the season was in Tuscaloosa, AL, on Sept. 28, where Alabama squeezed through in a tight game with a 41-34 win. Their second loss came from traveling to Mississippi, falling short to Ole Miss in a 28-10 game.
Georgia’s biggest wins of the season were nothing short of exciting. Their highly anticipated opener to the season on Aug. 31 against Clemson resulted in a beating, heading to 1-0 with a 34-3 win. Their road match-up on Oct. 19 with the top SEC team, Texas, was a sight. After angry Texas fans threw bottles on the field, the Dawgs headed home with a cozy 30-15 win.
Of course, all was well until rivalry weekend. Georgia took on their historical rival, Georgia Tech, on Nov. 29 in wild fashion. While the game was over with roughly six minutes left in the fourth quarter and down by two scores, the Dawgs sent this one into overtime. The game ended after eight overtimes, leaving Georgia fans relieved and exhausted with a 44-42 win over Tech.
After the loss of Carson Beck, Georgia plans on sticking with Gunner Stockton to be their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. The Bulldogs will open their season at home on Aug. 30 against Marshall University.
