Concerts, sporting events, conventions, marathons and festivals are popular leisure activities for most Americans.
These events can also be prime locations for dangerous activity.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security released a document detailing ways to stay safe in large crowds. Here is what they advised:
- Research the event.
- Have an outside contact.
- Scan the area.
- Remain aware of others.
Being aware of the size of the event is very important when it comes to determining where to evacuate if necessary. Consider factors such as weather conditions, event security, first aid availability, prohibited items and the importance of having an emergency contact in case any issues arise.
Locating restrooms and emergency exits is essential to ensuring safety across potential risks such as natural or physical disasters.
Although it is very difficult, staying calm during an emergency is important. Staying calm helps the crowd to move in a quick fashion, allowing more patrons to get to safety.
In case of an emergency, always dial 911.
