Men’s Basketball
The Piedmont Men’s Basketball team sits with a 9-6 record, showcasing their skills on the court. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster so far losing against Winthrop University, Upstate, and Emory. That didn’t stop them from getting two huge conference wins against LaGrange College and Asbury University.
“I’m really proud of our team,” said Senior guard Bailey Wiseman. “We’ve had ups and downs all year, but we’ve stayed together. We feel really good about where we’re at right now going forward in conference play.”
Key players like Darden Fisher, Javi Marlowe, Bailey Wiseman, and Dylan Patrick have definitely stepped up when it comes to the offense play, but they struggled with defense.
“Our biggest challenge so far has just been staying consistent with winning habits,” said Wiseman. “It’s so easy to overlook opponents or get complacent so we have really been trying to just focus on doing the right things every day.”
Coach Neeley has been assisting them every day to work on the little details and try to learn from their mistakes. The team hopes to turn things around, giving them a chance at a winning streak to make a push for the conference trophy.
“We feel that we can play with anyone and belong at the top of the conference so we’re excited to prove that,” said Wiseman
Women’s Basketball
The Piedmont Women’s Basketball team is mid-way through the season and looking strong. They currently have an 8-5 record and are first in the conference with 4-0 record.
“I think the team’s performance so far has been awesome honestly,” said Graduate Student guard Ashley Scott. “We have so many players that are willing to step up.”
The Lady Lions have shown a lot of work with amazing performances across the board and most importantly on the defense side. A key player, Senior forward Andelin Hill, has been awarded CCS Player of the Week multiple times.
“I don’t think we have played to our fullest potential yet, though and whenever we do it’s going to be ten times better than what it is now!” said Scott
The chemistry between all the players is starting to click when they step on the court, and their mindset is to win. There have been a couple of close losses, but that has not stop them. The Lady Lions have been competitive in every game and have picked up some big conference wins.
As the Lady Lions head into the second half of the season with Coach Purdy, they are ready to be strong on the offensive side and the defensive side. They aim to make a run at the conference championship.
