The Lions Track and Field team has wrapped up the 2024 season with several accolades and awards. Most importantly, the men’s team defended their 2022 championship victory, with the Lady Lions coming in second place.
On the men’s side, there were several standout performances.
On the sprints side, Sophomore Silas Goolsby won the 110 Hurdles, Senior Garrett Stadler won the 400 Hurdles, and stand-out performer Chris Donsereaux got 3rd place in the 100 and 4th in the 200. In the distance events, Senior Gary Halverson won the 1500m, and Senior Tucker Cox won the 3000m Steeplechase.
Freshman Ethan Butler-Paige threw a big PR to win the men’s Hammer throw. Other scoring throwers include Matthew Blocksom, Kerrigan McClain and Tucker Pulliam.
Though the Lady Lions took second place, Sophomore Michelle Cates, Junior Allie Feltus, and Senior Nakiyah Washington took home gold for the women’s team. Freshmen Kayla Ward and Zoe Harrison and Seniors Kai Doyle and Cortney Brown helped the team achieve second place.
Washington broke the Piedmont school record for the shot put, throwing an impressive 12.52 meters. Cortney Brown became the first Piedmont athlete to compete in the heptathlon.
Halverson set two school records in the indoor mile and outdoor 1500. Goolsby, and Stadler hold a school record in their respective events. Layton Bradford set a new school record in the 10,000m run.
Stadler and Goolsby were named USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region for their work in the hurdles and sprints for the outdoor season. Additionally, Allie Feltus, Abby Mauldin, Skyler Seeber, and Nakiyah Washington were selected to be on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. 27 Individuals on the team received All-Conference awards.
