Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team would earn two more victories and a new record against Greenville University and Rhodes College this past week.
Piedmont played Greenville University on Nov. 22, winning 131-128. Piedmont would break their team scoring record that weekend in this high-scoring game at Greenville. Juniors Dylan Patrick and Fisher Darden would scored 20 points. Another high scorer was senior Bailey Wiseman, who netted 15 points.
“It was a lot of fun,” Wiseman said. “It was a very unconventional game. They pressed the whole time, and there were a lot of possessions, so it was a very hectic and fun game to be a part of. And anytime that you can be a part of history, it’s very cool.”
The day after their record-breaking win. The Lions would face off against Rhodes College and would win 90-61. Senior Javi Marlowe would lead the team with 15 points. What really won the game for Piedmont was their free throws. Piedmont shot 90% from the free throw line, while Rhode College shot 54%.
The Lions’ will next play at #8-ranked Emory University on Nov. 26.

Men’s Swimming
The Piedmont men’s swimming team placed fourth this past weekend as they closed out their fall season at the Georgia Small College Championship.
“I was happy with my performance, but I know that I can’t just settle for what I did then because we still have more to come,” said sophomore Murphy O’Brien. “I don’t plan on holding back at all and I’m looking for another conference championship and more school records.”
Piedmont broke four school records throughout the event, the best finish coming from Leo Forero, who finished the 400 IM with a time of 4:19:76 taking second place. Also gaining new records alongside Forero were Junior Eric Fortner, Freshman Henry Rickman and O’Brien with a 3:15:95 in the 400 relay. Sophomore Perry Westbrook also posted a solo record with a time of 1:46:71 in the 200 free, gaining a spot in sixth place.
This concludes the team’s fall season. They will start up their season again on Jan. 6 in a dual meet at Union College in Kentucky.

Women’s Swimming
The Piedmont’s women’s swim team traveled to Columbus, Georgia to compete in the Georgia Small College Championships. The team finished in the 6th place out of six teams, but as the only Division III school competing, team members are not disappointed in the result.
“We are performing as a team, and we’re doing a good job getting personal bests and breaking records,” sajd sophomore Olivia Smith. “Losing to Southern Virginia just tells us that they are going to be a tough opponent at conference. As long as we keep working hard, we can get the three-peat conference championship.”
Smith was one of the leaders in school records with four total, tied with another sophomore Kelly Mashburn. Both swimmers had one personal record and three team relay records. Mashburn’s 5:30.93 time in the 500-yard freestyle bested Piedmont’s previous record and was good enough to earn 4th place at the meet. Smith broke the school record for the 100-yard butterfly placing 9th in the meet. The Lions have won the conference championship two years in a row and look to make it three this year. After a 4-1 dual record in the fall season, there is a lot of optimism for such success.
Piedmont will get some time off now and continue their season on Jan. 6 at Union College.
