Lanie McCarty, a junior and first year RA for Plymouth said, “I wanted to be an RA for the leadership role that would help me get more experience since I want to be a teacher. It helps me with gaining experience with conflict resolution, interacting with people, becoming a role model, and a leader” said McCarty.
Some advice McCarty gives to those applying is, “Be yourself, work with career services to get a good resume and a mock interview.”
Delyna Fuller, a sophomore and first year RA for Swanson says, “Personally helping people is my goal in life, and to help people improve and be better people, also connecting with all sorts of different people and making an impact on my residents is my favorite part of the job and made me want to apply.”
Along with advice and tips from Piedmont University’s resident assistants, Piedmont’s Assistant Director, Ana Lopez Prado, has some of her own insider tips and advice from her past experience at Piedmont and now present job position. “Personally, I credit so much of my success to my two years as an RA here at Piedmont, I grew so much as a student, professional, and person during the 2 years I was an RA. The RA role got me to and has made me successful in my current role as one of the assistant directors here at Piedmont University”
Lopez Prado provides some advice, “Be willing to go above and beyond, whether it is publicly or on the low. Be willing to learn! Do not stress out when things do not go as planned, that is life and that is Residence Life.”
Lopez Prado also said “when applying, have career services in the Student Success Center help you write/edit your resume and cover letter. Check, double check, and triple check your spelling and grammar on the application, resume, and cover letter.
