When I was in high school, Piedmont had me on their radar but I wanted nothing to do with the school. I was a women’s soccer athlete hell-bent on going Division I or Division II, and thought that Division III was the bottom of the barrel.
I ended up spending two years at a different university but somehow, my path led me back to Piedmont. Without a doubt, transferring to Piedmont was the best decision I’ve ever made. In soccer and in academics I began to thrive, but the relationships and memories I’ve made have shaped me as a person.
I’ve gotten good grades and won great awards, but nothing is as special to me as the mentors who have led me to this point, and the friends I’ve made inside the Swanson Center and in Demorest… Cornelia… and Athens.
I got to win a conference championship on a team that I felt loved me just as much as I loved it. I got to play for a coach who took a chance on a transfer who had fallen out of love with the sport of soccer. I got to represent a university that invested in me, and I am proud to be a Lion.
In the spring of 2023, I joined The Roar and I’ve loved writing for and about our campus. I got to be the number one instigator and be in the know about everything that happens. My favorite articles I worked on were the Spring Commencement articles with former Editor-in-Chief Hailey Johnson and current co-Editor-in-Chief Paige Kluba, and Division Bri, the story of Piedmont women’s tennis player Bri Laidman.
It’s been the honor of a lifetime to be the editor-in-chief of the Roar, and I’m so thankful for the school that took me in and made me the best version of myself. Thank you Piedmont, and as always, go Lions.
Sincerely,
Unc, Moneybag Chlo, ChloRilla, #4 and your Editor-in-Chief Chloe Spradlin.
