Donald Trump has won the 2024 Presidential Election, with the Associated Press breaking the news at 5:34 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024. Trump reached 277 votes in the Electoral College compared to Harris’s 224 electoral votes.
There were seven key swing states in this election: Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin and North Carolina. Many election experts deemed Pennsylvania as the most important battleground state, stating the winner of Pennsylvania will most likely win the election.
North Carolina was the first swing state to be called, going in favor of Donald Trump. The state was called at 11:19 p.m. ET on Election Day.
Georgia was the second to be called, in favor of Donald Trump at 12:58 a.m. on Wednesday. This was a key flip from the 2020 Presidential election, where Georgia voted blue for the first time since 1980.
Pennsylvania was the third swing state to be called in favor of Donald Trump at 2:25 a.m.
Moments later, Trump won Wisconsin and that put him over 270 electoral votes and gave him the victory. This makes Trump the second president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms.
Additionally, Republicans have taken control of the United States Senate, called at 12:13 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Republicans have also maintained control of the House of Representatives. This is the first time that a single party has controlled the Presidency, House and Senate since 2016, the last time Trump was elected into office.
The United States Supreme Court holds a 6-3 conservative majority of the bench. Each branch of government has a majority that leans to the right of the political spectrum.
