Men’s Golf
Piedmont men’s golf had a very strong fall season, finishing high in numerous events. Their season kicked off on Sept. 1 with the Transylvania Invite, in which the team placed 7th of 19. Their next competition was their best of the year, beating out 11 other teams to win the Greystone Fall Invitational. Junior Adam Rogers led the Lions to victory, posting a score of 5-under par.
Their next event was the Gate City Invitational, where they faced challenging schools such as Berry and Emory. The Lions placed 10th of 18, with Rogers again leading the Lions, with 4-under par.
Next for the Lions was the Oglethorpe Invite in Douglasville, GA, where they placed 12th of 20. Sophomore, Doug Gugel headlined the Lions’ performance with 5-over par.
To conclude the Lions’ fall season, they hit the road for the Chick-fil-A Invitational for a B-team event. Junior Remo Scholl and Freshman Connor Fahey both led the Lions with 4-over par.
Men’s golf kept their performances solid throughout the year, with golfers like Gugel and Rogers leading the way.
Women’s Golf
Women’s golf also had a solid season, competing in four events. Junior Erin Donovan was named USA South Golfer of the Year for her stellar performance in 2023-24 and continued her consistent play this year, but it wasn’t without trouble.
“My season honestly hasn’t been great. It’s had its ups and downs,” Donovan said. “I’ve had some rough performances after good rounds.”
The Lions placed 6th of 13 in the Joe & Lee Duncan Invitational in mid-September, followed by a 7th-place finish in the MCC Women’s Intercollegiate in Montgomery, AL, a week later.
“Montgomery was really good for me,” Donovan said.
Good is an understatement for Donovan. She finished with 8-under par, showing why she was awarded USA South Golfer of the Year.
“I think, really, it’s just more of a mental battle, like putting up scores that I know I can put up,” she said. “But also defeating the expectations that I’ve set for myself because of past performance.”
The Lions then finished 3rd of 7 in the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio, TX on Oct. 7-8. The conclusion of the Lions’ strong season was the Chick-fil-A Invitational. Donovan dominated again, claiming a winning title with 3-under par.
The Piedmont Lions’ fall golf season was full of great performances, learning experiences, and standout players.
