Piedmont University will be hosting its 36th favorite holiday event, “Lessons and Carols,” a selection of readings, carols and choir anthems to kick off the holidays for the greater Demorest area.
“Lessons and Carols” includes performances from The Piedmont Chorale, Brass Choir, the Sewell Organ and the Chestatee High School Chorus. Bobby Ivey and Lisa Bassett are the conductors of the concert.
Piedmont University is now charging admission to a once-free event, where tickets went on sale on Oct. 25 on Piedmont University’s website or here.
“Even if the event sells out, Piedmont will not make a profit,” said Chris Kelly, the associate Dean of the Fine Arts at Piedmont. “All proceeds will go directly to the Music Department to support future programming.”
Tickets will be $10 per person. Piedmont students will receive free admission. Seniors, children and students who do not attend Piedmont will have a discounted admission of $5. Any donor from Friends of the Arts will receive complimentary tickets.
Piedmont is expecting 600-800 people to attend the 36th Annual “Lessons and Carols” concert, as it is the university’s most popular fine arts event.
“I am excited to be a part of ‘Lessons and Carols’ as a member of the Piedmont Chorale,” said Kelly. “I have seen most of the performances in my 17 years at Piedmont, but this will be the first time I experience it from the stage.”
Kelly will be singing in the chorale for the first time this year alongside other Piedmont students, professors, faculty and community members.
“Lessons and Carols” will be held in the Piedmont Chapel on Dec. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. The show will last an hour and a half, concluding at 9 p.m.
