Three students have brought a challenge to Piedmont University. Avonlea Kirby, Sarah Fox and Jadon Gonzales have introduced a new initiative called the Project Green Challenge (PGC). Acting in tandem with the organization “Turning Green,” the three hope to usher in an era of eco-consciousness to Piedmont.
“Project Green Challenge is a call to action that features 30 days of eco-themed challenges throughout the month of October,” says a post on their Instagram account. “We hope that with our participation in PGC, we can create a call to action on campus for further sustainable practices.”
“We want people to check our account daily to learn more about sustainable practices,” said Jadon Gonzales, a member of Project Green Challenge. “We believe that as a community, we need to put forth more effort to protect our planet and the resources that come with it because we only have one Earth.”
The three gave students a taste of some of the planned projects, including a green space on the Stewart Hall balcony that can also function as a common area for students.
Every day, the three students post questions, videos and infographics to educate the student body. The organization also competes with other schools doing the same across the nation. Follow the account @piedmont.pgc24 on Instagram for updates and challenges.
