Piedmont women’s lacrosse announced their Women’s Awareness and Self-Defense Workshop that will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the commons conference room. This workshop is not an exclusive event for the Piedmont University women’s lacrosse team, as many more guests are invited.
“I’m super excited for my team to be able to experience this together,” said senior goalie Rachel Verner.
“Acquainting myself with campus safety measures is a priority for me as a student,” said junior midfielder Lovette Choloh. “I’m eager to gather advice from my teammates’ fathers on how my friends and I can maintain our security, safety, and awareness.”
Michael “Moose” Moore and Tara Silvertri from The Vigilance Group will lead an interactive, hands-on workshop that will provide women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to stay safe.
“I look forward to spending time with my team and meeting ‘Moose the instructor,’” said senior attacker Ava Trankina. “I want to learn how to protect myself and others because you never know who or what is out there.”
During this workshop, women will learn to maintain vigilance and awareness and respond effectively in dangerous situations. Moore and Silverti will help teach the skill set of Vigilante, how to prevent becoming a victim, how to respond first to danger and how to defend against an attacker.
“I think this is super important to college women to know how to defend themselves so I’m excited to learn a lot,” said Verner.
Thanks to a dedicated family within the Piedmont University women’s lacrosse community, their help ensures athletes and guests gain valuable self-defense and awareness skills.
“I firmly believe that attending a self-defense workshop will be highly beneficial, and particularly for me as a young woman, and I would definitely suggest it to others,” said Choloh.
