A gunman opened fire in the Sewell Education Center on April 25, but not really.
Piedmont University held its annual disaster drill on the main quad, serving as a final exam for senior nursing students, as well as providing training opportunities for forensics science, criminal justice, theater and mass communications students. This year’s simulation featured an active shooter, and involved the collaboration of first responders across North Georgia.
“The team is very grateful for the invaluable experience this offers the Piedmont University community,” said nursing professor and Dean of the Nursing and Health Sciences department, Dr. Jamie Johnson-Huff. “This may sound like a cliché, but this exercise can save many lives.”
