The Habersham County Historical Society has been in existence since 1973, preserving the county’s history and memorabilia.
In 2023, the historical society celebrated its 50th anniversary in a joint jubilee with local Habersham Division III private institute Piedmont University for their 125th anniversary.
The historical society has been functioning out of 353 Chattahoochee Street in Cornelia, Georgia, but unfortunately, this location has been difficult for local Habersham residents to find.
With hopes of spreading awareness about who they are and what they do, the Habersham County Historical Society decided to move locations to an area where they will have the opportunity to reach more locals.
The historical society will be moving from the south end of the county in Cornelia to a place that is more central in Demorest, across from the Exxon on the corner of Central Avenue and Alabama Street, and next to Demorest Baptist Church.
The Habersham County Historical Society will be inside the new Demorest city hall that was opened in mid-March.
They want to spread awareness to local college students and inform a new generation of Habersham residents of the county’s history, and this location will allow them to continue to reach students along with all the residents who know and love Habersham County.
The historical society is currently in the process of moving but will be located at 250 Alabama St, Demorest, GA 30535 within the next few months.

That’s awesome! I have an Airbnb in Demorest and with the historical society moving to Demorest, that will be a great addition to my local recommendations for guests to visit.
