The Piedmont men’s lacrosse team has had the best regular season in program history, going into the conference tournament with a 13-2 record and 7-1 in the USA South.
The history hasn’t stopped at the win-loss record. Senior captain Brady McGuire became the all-time points leader for the program in their game against Pfeiffer University.
“I feel electric,” said McGuire. “I couldn’t do it without my teammates. But I came in here with a good group of guys and we kept growing as a program.”
McGuire leads the team in assists this regular season with 37, and is second in goals with 39.
Manning the cage, senior goalie and captain Johnny Matrona achieved the most wins for a goalie in program history. At the end of the regular season, Matrona’s win total stands at 32.
“I feel good,” said Matrona. “I’m incredibly honored. I couldn’t do it without the rest of my guys, it’s more a team thing than a me thing. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am.”
On defense, junior Andrew Pagano is the new record holder for caused turnovers, with 86 in his career at the end of the 2024 regular season.
“It feels great,” said Pagano. “Breaking it as a junior, I’m only going to break it even more, and it’s a good record to have for the team.”
Along with the history men’s lacrosse have made this season, five different players have been named a USA South Player of the Week a total of 10 times.
“We’ve built a great program here. We’ve gotten shut down recently in the playoffs, and I know we can do it. This is the year we’re going to do it,” said McGuire.
Piedmont men’s lacrosse earned a first-round bye in the USA South conference tournament They will await their semifinal opponent, with the semifinal and championship games to be played at number-one seed Pfeiffer University, May 3-4.
