Piedmont is proud of the Fine Arts Department for their artists and performers. Sof Delgado created You Are Not Your Face for the Make Mom Proud (MMP) program, the theatre department, whose purpose is to create a student-run original production to raise money for a cause of the student’s choosing. Delgado even combined the MMP with their capstone. From MMP, Delgado looked into the Lavander Fest hosted by Out Front Theatre in Atlanta. “I’d been hired by them [Out Front Theatre] a couple of times this semester to set design and loved working with them, so when I heard about the festival I figured why not!” Out Front Theatre is a company that helps give a platform for LGBTQIA+ communities to highlight their creations and promote representation.
Aside from their production season, they have other events like the Lavander Fest. As they host Lavander Fest, a 5-day festival from June 19 – 23rd, 2024, it is to display queer talent and stories for the public to enjoy.
Sof Delgado’s show You Are Not Your Face was chosen to be performed not just once but twice during the festival. “I went in thinking, “Cool, we will get a shot at showing everybody what we have been working hard on.” Then I found out we’d get to show people twice. That’s two more times than I ever could have dreamed of!” Delgado said. This is an impressive turnaround as this is the first time a Piedmont student has been accepted to the Lavander Fest and taken to a professional standing. If you would like to support Delgado and the cast and crew of You Are Not Your Face, tickets are available at tinyurl.com/yourfacelavenderfest. You Are Not Your Face will be performed on June 19th at 6:30 pm and June 21st at 9:30 pm at 999 Brady Ave NW. Atlanta, GA 30318. Congratulations to everyone involved in You Are Not Your Face. Piedmont is hoping for more good news from the Fine Arts Department.
