Amanda Price is a senior women’s soccer player at Piedmont University. She is from Newnan, Georgia, and has played soccer for 17 years. Being a student-athlete has been on her mind for most of her athletic life. Price has an older sister that she always wanted to be like when she was younger.
“My sister is five years older than me, so she’s someone I’ve always looked up to,” said Price.
With that, Price went on to make the best of her athletic ability and was able to garner multiple offers in her high school senior season. Price committed to Shorter University where she had high hopes to kickstart her collegiate career.
“I liked that Shorter was in a populated area, and the professors were nice and well educated when I went for my visit,” said Price.
Once Price got into Shorter, it was promised to her that her experience would be great. With that in the back of her mind, Amanda went in wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready for the next chapter of her life to start, but once she got there that feeling quickly went away.
Price said, “The coach lied to me about their record and how many years she was working with the team.”
The head coach at the time had told Price that the team had a winning record, when in actuality they had a 2-14 record for the 2019 season. Her coach had said she just started with Shorter, when she was the assistant coach for the team for two years and the head coach for four. This was just the tip of the iceberg for Price.
Once starting her first semester on campus, there was another thing that made Price question her team and coaching staff at Shorter.
“We had 6 a.m.’s the first two weeks of our season, as well as one week during our preseason on a wet grass field.”
After all this, Price had enough and transferred after her first semester at Shorter. Price went on to attend West Georgia University online and didn’t know what her future held when it came to soccer. Price reached out to Piedmont University women’s soccer head coach Timmy McCormack, and her chance to play soccer was restored.
Price said, “Timmy was the only coach that I never heard bad things said about, and he also cares for his players on and off the field.”
Price transferred and hasn’t looked back. Now being at Piedmont, she has found her place and will continue to make strides going into her senior season.
“I’m excited for the team environment that will be built for my senior season. Hopefully we’ll get a ring.”
