It’s almost time for students to set down their books for a week.
The middle of the semester is near. Winter sports are ending, spring sports have just begun, seniors are trying to keep up with capstone and others are hammered with midterm exams and homework. In two weeks, spring break will be here and will give students the opportunity to relax and give their hardworking brains a break.
Students and faculty both anticipate the break away from all the long hours spent in the classroom. It’s where students have the opportunity to travel outside of the state or country and enjoy some quality time with their family, friends or partners. With so many options, spring break doesn’t look the same for all students.
“I am excited to go to California this spring break to visit my sister who just recently had a kid,” said senior Noah Reardon. “This will be an amazing time to see my sister and family.”
As some students have the chance to travel to see their family over break, some spring sport student-athletes have the obligation to stay on campus for competition. Specifically, the men and women’s tennis teams take a trip down to Orlando for a few matches.
“This year we play three days, each day consisting of a morning and afternoon match and then we have a free day in between match days,” said junior Bri Laidman. “We’re also very lucky because one day we’re there, our coach, Trey, will take us to Universal. It’s such a great time and it really brings our team together to bond and create memories that I know will last a lifetime.”
Not all athletes get their break in the sun by the beach, or near a famous amusement park. This season, women’s lacrosse will take their trip up north to Virginia, starting their USA South campaign with two games. Junior attacker Aly Reece will have more than just games and break from classes.
“I’ve never celebrated my birthday during spring break, but I think it’ll be fun because I’ll be with my team. Hopefully we can get some wins,” said Reece. “Sometimes you wish you had a real spring break, but it is fun to get to play the sport.”
Some students will spend their time on the beach, other students will be spending time at home or representing the Lions in their sport. While spring break looks different for many Piedmont students, the break from the books will be the same for everyone.
Enjoy the break Lions, because before you know it, the semester will be ramping up toward finals and graduation after the return of spring break.
