Piedmont University has announced the hiring of Dustin Meadows as the new men’s golf team head coach. This comes after a months long search, and athletic director Jim Peeples acting as interim head coach through most of the fall.
“I think everybody on campus will be excited when they see the job that Dustin does with our men’s program,” said Peeples. “I’m really excited that we’ve got Dustin here. I think we’ve got a dynamite coach.”
Meadows comes to Piedmont with 16 years of coaching experience under his belt, including as an assistant coach at Division I Longwood University, and most recently as head coach of NAIA St. Andrews University.
“I just knew [Piedmont] is somewhere where I need to be,” said Meadows. “There’s just something about the place and the people that just sucks you in. And I’ve loved every minute of it.”
Piedmont men’s golf are coming off of a second place finish in the Collegiate Conference of the South, and an NCAA National Championship runner up finish. Individually, three Piedmont golfers finished in the all-conference team, and senior Josh Hebrink ended the season as Piedmont’s first ever individual national champion.
“The expectation of winning is still there,” said Meadows. “[The golfers] have to understand in your own heart that you belong, and you deserve to win. If you have that feeling and that belief then everything else takes care of itself. We’ll see who steps up and takes care of business.”
Men’s golf will open their spring season March 5-6 at the Savannah Harbor Invitational. Keep up to date with men’s golf and all Piedmont athletics at piedmontlions.com.
